Gwenchana Home Based Care and Occupational Services was created to bring nursing and caregiving support directly into the homes of people who need it. The practice works with individuals recovering from surgery, managing chronic conditions, or simply needing a little more support with daily life, offering care that fits around them rather than the other way around.
Many families in Namibia do not realise that their medical aid may cover home-based care. Gwenchana helps patients and their families access this support, with caregivers and registered nurses who understand what it takes to provide care in the home.
Every service offered by Gwenchana is delivered with the same focus: helping people stay comfortable, safe and supported in the place they know best.
Care is arranged around the individual rather than a standard package, and families are kept informed at every stage. Where a registered nurse and a caregiver are both involved, the two work from the same plan, so nothing falls between the gaps.
Gwenchana takes the time to understand what kind of support each person needs at home. As things change, the care can change with them. Families are also kept informed about what their medical aid may cover, so they have a clearer idea of what to expect.
This approach applies whether the need is short-term, such as a few weeks of post-surgery support, or ongoing, such as ongoing nursing care for a chronic condition. In both cases, the person receiving care and their family remain at the centre of every decision made about their support.
Gwenchana was founded by Liina S Amunyela, who brings years of experience in public health management and the mental health sector to the practice. That experience showed her how often families struggle to access home-based support their medical aid already covers, which became the foundation for Gwenchana. She is currently furthering her studies in Public Health Management at the University of Namibia (UNAM) and Human Resource Management at the International University of Management (IUM).

Outside of the practice, Liina spends her time reading and writing short stories, an interest she says keeps her attentive to the small details that matter in people's lives, whether on the page or in the care Gwenchana provides.
